Work with community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and all residents of our community to create a safe environment for all citizens in Antioch.

  1. Hire More Police using Measure W funds as the people voted for to get to 1.2 Officers per 1,000 Population.
  2. Require Diversity Training for each officer before being hired.
  3. Bring back Community Policing with Officers on the Beat on foot or on bicycles in Highest Crime Areas of Sycamore and Cavallo. Include it in the field training of new officers to get to know the people they’re working to serve and protect.
  4. Body Cameras for Every Officer.
  5. Strengthen Role of the Antioch Police Crime Prevention Commission.
"I am dedicated to continuing my work with community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and all residents of our community to create a safe environment for all citizens in the city of Antioch."

-Gabriel Makinano

Operation Ceasefire

Gabriel has been working for a safer Antioch for years. Through various opportunities to mentor youth at our Antioch high schools. Through Operation Ceasefire, he was walked some of our most hurting streets, using his voice and leadership to speak hope and change to our neighborhoods. Operation Ceasefire entails a problem-oriented policing approach, and is focused on specific places that are crime hot spots. Focus is placed on two elements of the gun violence problem: illicit gun trafficking and gang violence.

That's why Gabriel believes that it is so important to build trust between the community and Police. He learned the value of creating strong relationships and the power that people have in the support and protection of their own streets. Gabriel believes that by hosting multicultural community education events between the Antioch Police Department and residents of Antioch, the same collaborative efforts that he helped create through Operation Ceasefire will help in improving these relationships.

Through these efforts Gabriel has seen the importance of building up our needy areas by doing the research and reallocating the use of funds in ways that will have the most impacted.
